Those 2 phones have optimized hardware for their respective mobile operating systems.
Samsung phones are fun for a few weeks, but after a while they bog down with lag and Samsung literally never updates them more than once. The S9 will get Android P next March and that's it. Samsung will abandon it and move on to the Galaxy S 10 or whatever. |

I have an S8+ and report similar findings. People claiming that these late model Samsung phones slow down is about as true as the boogeyman. Also, as far as battery life goes, I'm currently 40h 26min since I last charged it and I'm at 41% as of this post.

My only actual complaints with Apple are taking out the headphone jack (they started it, even if others are imitating), and the fact that iTunes is such horrendous garbage to use that it makes me angry just to see it's stupid fucking icon.

i dont get the appeal of the pixel phones. they're basically android phones trying to copy iphones. why not just get an iphone at that point?

Because every company is making terrible phones.
Google - Worse hardware ever. I can't find one that doesn't have burn-in on that eye sore of a display. It also lacks many modern features. Shady info selling. Apple - Notch or 69 year old design. iOS is less optimized than some android phones these days. Samsung - Back to the half baked gimmicks with AR emoji. Inferiority complex to Apple. Terrible customer service. Never get software support. Huawei - The FBI said nah. Other - hah. It's pick your poison out there. |

My s6 works fine outside of a broken usb jack. Smartphone fans really love to nitpick these things to death. The real sweet spot IMO is 6-12 month old Samsung phones. They support their phones for 3ish years now (though the updates aren't as timely as Apple) and you can get a top of the line phone from 30-50% off retail price (and retail price is actually the price carriers sell it for, not fake savings). Pixels rarely get discounted (except the XL 2 since it was a trash phone).

That's what annoys me the most, but it's a good phone otherwise. I use it so much I have screen burn in, but it's not a deal breaker for me.

I seem to recall the Xperia line being pretty solid for a couple years now. The Xperia Play was kind of a silly phone tho. The compact variant is a great line if you want a small Android device. Sucks that there's fuckall for custom ROM support - that's a dealbreaker for me personally.
