- I feel like iPhone X should've been way more popular
The more expensive these phones become (even a $500 phone is now considered midgrade) with yearly incremental updates, people have less of a reason to upgrade. They will instead hold onto their current phone for longer.

Problem was Apple released the iPhone 8 a few months before it.
Most people already upgraded their iPhone before the X came out. |

A garbage pod!? It's a smegging garbage pod!

Let's not forget that even for a $1k smartphone, it suffers the same major CPU exploit with the rest of the iPhones, iPads, and Macs Apple has ever released.
Although Android has sort of the same issues, the security patches will not impact performance as provided by Google. Can't say the same for everything else.

It hardly has enough extra features to justify buying it over an 8.

I don't know how anyone at Apple thought the notch at the top was a good idea. I think they argued that it allowed the bezel-less design They kind of ignored the fact that the other bezel-less 2017 smartphones had higher screen to body ratios

You still have to pay $600 for it with a contract in Canada. Fuck that.
Also I play around with it every time I stop by Best Buy or go to a carrier's store and I just can't bring myself to like it. |

I think they argued that it allowed the bezel-less design I dont think they argued they needed it for a bezel-less design in general, just bezel-less with the FaceID stuff in there too. They either needed to drop FaceID, have a top bezel(albeit a fairly small one) or have "the notch" but "the notch" also gives them another unique silhouette to use for branding/marketing(like the classic iPhone silhouette which was basically the de facto "smartphone" silhouette) w/r/t popularity, I've personally heard a lot of people talk about how they don't want an X over an 8/8 Plus because it drops the home button, so it'll be interesting to me to see if the X holdouts swap to Android in 2-3 years once it filters down to the mainline iPhones or if they'll buy it and just complain. I think Apple really fucked up the X by making it a black sheep for this cycle of iPhones and it might totally undermine the reworking they're trying to do, especially if they don't move every model of iPhone to the bezel-less model of the X next year.

Face ID is dumb. I’m black. In low lighting scenarios I doubt it’d be reliable. As a fellow black guy, it is reliable, even in pure darkness. The only time it gets annoying is the angles. It doesn’t like it when I hold the phone too high, I gotta be pretty particular with the angles which makes unlocking when I’m laying down kinda annoying. Still, I like it a lot more than I thought I would and don’t miss Touch ID at all.

The removal of Touch ID was a deal breaker.
With my S8+, I like having multiple ways to unlock my device and authenticate purchases. The iris scanner works in the dark, with glasses, and works in the dark with glasses. All I do is look at the phone and it takes me to the home screen. No swipe needed. The fingerprint scanner on the back has gotten criticism for its placement. Doesn't bother me because my phone has a case where the scanner is separated from the camera lens by a ridge, so I never get them mixed up. Facial recognition is less secure, so I don't bother with it.

Launching the iPhone 8 a couple months earlier was a stupid decision. The 8 shouldn't even exist, it's just a slightly better 7.
I know two people who got the iPhone X. They're die hard Apple fanboys. They both regret buying it. |

Sack_Pickscott posted...Removing the fingerprint scanner was by far one of the dumbest ideas. Even so, it's probably the smartest way to do it if you're trying to go bezel-less. Face ID is not. Face ID should be, at most, a 3rd way to unlock your phone outside of a pin, not only one of two

Fuck how many changes doe the 8 even have from the 6S? the 8/8 Plus is different enough to be its own number since they did the traditional external redesign for them at least the 7/7 Plus existing is the real stupid thing since they were basically just 6S/6S Plus Turbo edition(no longer ft. 3.5mm jack)

Also, the 8 is still only 1334x750 and the 8+ is 1920x1080. Actual joke.

Their commercials only seem to advertise three things:
1) A great screen - okay, good selling point. 2) Face ID - actually kind of creepy to most consumers. 3) Animojis - just flat out annoying to most consumers. So, is it shocking if there's not really much interest?

As far as it not being popular/priced too high, anecdotally, I see it everywhere. Most of my friends that are broke have it too. Getting it is just another 5-10 bucks a month on their plan. I think that's how most of the American market looks at it. I'm more pissed that Android manufacturers aren't doing enough to take advantage of Apple's hubris. Google is clearly using cheap leftovers for hardware since they don't have a manufacturing presence yet. Samsung still has a ways to go with software and they've even regressed in some ways since the S6, especially with the camera. No other companies matter. |

Yes seriously. The screens have been the same resolution since the iPhone 6. Only the X is above 1920x1080.Cleo_II posted...I have no desire for a $1000 phone when mine works just fine. That animoji commercial keeps coming on when I'm using Hulu and it makes me want to punch walls. Here I am sticking with my Note 4, it's awesome battery life, removable battery, removable SD card, headphone jack, and access to better apps because it's not a shitty, restrictive Apple phone.I have a signature.
